 | SYSTEC 3rd Annual Seminar: VIRTUAL IT Malta, 6th October 2009
Systec Limited has recently hosted a seminar about Virtual IT solutions at the Le Meridien St. Julian's. Virtualisation, as the virtual cloud computing process is known, has taken over the industry by storm. "Systec was quick to recognise the benefits offered to the IT industry by this technology, and invested early on to achieve international accreditation with world leading software innovator VMWare," explained Systec managing director, Ing Raphael Micallef Trigona, whilst kicking off the one day seminar. He added, "Systec has been certified to Consultant level with VMware since 2007 and is the only local company to have earned this certification. This allows Systec to provide VMWare certified services to Malta's leading enterprises". VMWare, whose 2007 IPO attracted world-wide acclaim by propelling the company straight to become the 3rd largest software company, by capitalisation, has been a pioneer in the development of virtualisation solutions. Its continued research and development has consolidated its leadership position in this market.
VMWare business development manager, Mr. Jamal Belhachemi, galvanised the 80-strong audience of IT professionals by his presentation "Hello Freedom", where he shared VMWare's IT solutions empowering the CIO to enjoy enhanced freedom within the company IT infrastructure by means of VMWare "vSphere 4.0". The VMWare double act was completed by Product Marketing Manager, Mr. Andrea Siverio, who highlighted the advantages of vMWare's "vCentre Management" and "VMWare View: Seeing the desktop as a service". Besides the increased compliance-driven requirement for Disaster Recovery solutions, site recovery is today being viewed as an essential component of any corporate IT infrastructure. Further, by means of virtualisation of the desktop, operational costs for system administration for the desktop PC environment, are dramatically reduced.
Hewlett Packard's (HP), regional sales manager, Mr. Patrick Diaz, delivered a presentation on the latest technology innovations offered by HP in the server and network storage portfolio, with a special focus on HP technology for VMWare solutions. He thanked Systec for the continued dedication to developing this business segment. In recognition of this, he presented Systec with the award for the largest enterprise HP partner in the six country cluster including Malta, and Nuno Fernandes, Systec Enterprise project Leader, with the award as HP Blade Ambassador. This is in fact the 4th consecutive year in which Systec has earned both of these accolades.
Efficiency savings in data back-up solutions, driven by data de-duplictaion, were of the order of up to 90 times in terms of size and speed of back-up, described Mr. Stephen Caltagirone, Senior Systems Engineer, at Data Domain. This in turn afforded greater security and integrity of replication data for archiving and disaster recovery requirements. Data Domain complements the VMWare disaster recovery offering and is a world leader in hardware in-line de-duplicators.
Danilo Morichi, Sales Manager for F5, highlighted the acceleration, security and virtualisation solutions offered to enhance application delivery across the network. Tens of thousands of customers have achieved the highest levels of performance, security and availability of their network and internet applications hand in hand with F5 solutions, in an integrated environment with VMWare.
